Visit East Matunuck

Unlike many beaches in Rhode Island, East Matunuck State Beach allows visitors to do activities such as throw a football, frisbee or play paddle ball. The beach is free to walk on where as Narragansett charges for each person to enter. You can take a short walk to the breaker wall and watch the boats go by. Be sure to wave at the patrons on the Block Island Ferry!

The are a few restaurants within walking distance to the beach as well. The most famous of which is the Matunuck Oyster Bar. Known for it’s fine cuisine, there’s been a roof deck added recently so you can take in the views while dining. If you are there in the evening the sun sets are some of the best you will see in Rhode Island. Another favorite location for locals is Captain Jacks. Visit the restaurant to the right, ice cream take out location in the middle, or the Salt Marsh Pub on the left. Outdoor dining is an option and they have outdoor heaters if you get cold.

Jim’s Docks is around the corner in Jerusalem and serves the best breakfast in South County! If you missed breakfast, no worries because they also serve lunch and dinner. Be sure to bring your own wine or beer if you want to indulge. For some of the freshest seafood in the state, head next door to Skip’s Dock where you can dine on fish & chips, lobster rolls, clam cakes, or just get a burger. There’s a public dock right there as well next to a small beach where dogs are welcome!
